Stroud Announced as Moderator for State of the Valley Event

Huntington, WV. – The Charleston Regional, Huntington Regional, and Putnam County Chambers of Commerce are excited to announce that Toney Stroud, Marshall University's General Counsel and Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Corporate Relations, will be the moderator for the inaugural State of the Valley regional event presented by Meek’s Rentals & Leasing on Wednesday, August 23 at 11:30 a.m., at Valley Park Conference Center in Hurricane.

The State of the Valley event will bring together prominent leaders and community members to gain insight into the current state of affairs in Cabell, Kanawha, and Putnam counties. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from esteemed guests, including Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin, City of Charleston; Mayor Steve Williams, City of Huntington; Commissioner Andy Skidmore, Putnam County Commission; and Commissioner Kelli Sobonya, Cabell County Commission.

These distinguished speakers will provide comprehensive updates on their communities, unveil their priorities for the coming year, and highlight potential avenues for collaboration among various stakeholders.

H. Toney Stroud will serve as moderator during the event. Stroud's department at Marshall University encompasses more than 80 employees and converges external affairs with policy and economic development to maximize Marshall's efforts to grow Appalachia.

Before joining Marshall University, Stroud held the position of assistant vice president at Encova Insurance, working as an attorney since 2013. In this capacity, he oversaw legal matters spanning 28 states, including litigation, contracts, regulatory affairs, and insurance coverage. He also supported the company's HR team, advised on legislative affairs, and managed external legal counsel. He served at Steptoe & Johnson, PLLC from 1998-2013. Stroud remains actively engaged in various community organizations, presently serving on multiple boards including the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce, Education Alliance, Huntington Area Development Council (HADCO), Leadership West Virginia, the Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences of West Virginia, St. Mary’s Medical Center Foundation, and River Cities United Way.
