Framing Memories: Inside The Frame Station
Photos and story by Katie Marshall, HRCC Intern
Local businesses play an important role in preserving the character and history of a community. Serving Huntington from their brick-and-mortar store in the Central City Antiques District since 2024, The Frame Station specializes in custom framing that protects and showcases life’s most meaningful memories. Under the ownership of Kris Hillen, the shop has built a reputation for craftsmanship, precision, and personalized service.
What truly sets The Frame Station apart is the artistic perspective behind the work. As both a visual and musical artist, Kris brings a creative eye and appreciation for skill into every project. His background in the arts allows him to understand the emotion and intentions behind the pieces customers bring in, whether it is an original artwork, beloved memorabilia, a poster, or a photograph.
The Frame Station offers custom framing, conservation & archival framing, shadow boxes, canvas stretching, and personalized design consultations. Each project is delicately measured and assembled using quality materials that ensure both beauty and durability. Rather than rushing the process, the shop is dedicated to one-on-one attention, helping customers select the right materials to best compliment their piece.
“I’m excited about all the people I meet. A lot of my customers are really unique, and they have unique things that they want me to frame that are very special to them,” said Kris. “Sometimes I get the opportunity to frame for folks who might be publicly displaying the work, whether it’s maybe a restaurant, coffee shop, bookstore or something like that. It feels nice to see those pieces out in the community.”

For a lot of customers, framing is about preserving important milestones and memories in their lives. From military medals and diplomas to original artwork and antique photographs, The Frame Station approaches each project with care and honor for its significance.
A number of customers first come to The Frame Station with one project in mind, only to return time and time again for future framing needs. That loyalty speaks to the care and consistency that define the business. By joining the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce, The Frame Station is further strengthening its commitment to building local connections and remaining an active part of the local business community.
“I look forward to the unknown possibilities, the things that I don’t necessarily think about yet. The things I know can happen are exciting, but what we don’t know now, that’s what really excites me. I’d love to host more creative events with unique artists and see what grows from that.”
Through artistry, precision, and dedication to personal service, The Frame Station continues to help preserve the pieces that tell our stories, beautifully framed and built to last.
