HUNTINGTON, W.Va., <October 9th, 2019>: Mountwest Community & Technical College is honored to host our annual, breast cancer awareness event, Pink Out. Honoring the memory of a long-time employee, Karen Johnson, and her daughter, Jennifer Johnson Polo. The event was created to fund a scholarship in honor of Johnson, a Mountwest employee for 27 years, who passed away in October 2011 after a long, hard-fought battle with breast cancer. Now the event also honors her daughter, Jennifer, who also passed away from the disease in 2012.
The four day event will kick off October 14th with a survivor walk. During the survivor walk our community will walk the MCTC campus in honor of those affected by breast cancer. We encourage our community to come out and join us during the entire week to show support for Karen, her daughter and all those affected by breast cancer. Throughout the rest of the week there will raffles, food sales and other great activities with all proceeds going towards this great cause. Individuals who cannot attend the event but would like to make a donation can make checks payable to the Mountwest Foundation with Karen Johnson scholarship fund noted on the memo line.
Associate Professor Janet Smith chair the coordination of Pink Out. “Karen was a wonderful person, we are thrilled to be able to host this event in her memory.” Smith said. h
